Blog one - Engage Media begins work on NFM's Capture Scheme

Firstly sorry for the unimaginative title of this blog. In not knowing what I was going to share with you I have let you all down with my poor lexicon. I apologise.

I would like to thank Superkrush Films, Northern Film and Media for this amazing opportunity, my Mum... and I'm getting carried away.

It is really exciting to be included in the scheme though, especially as this is my first broadcast commission. I have always wanted to work in TV and so hopefully this project will be a stepping stone into further network commissions for me and for the company.

My first challenge has already arisen as I have inherited Directing this project from someone else so I am currently deciding on how I wish to approach Michael's story and the best way to deliver it within three minutes. I am interested in delving into his family situation further, as I think the impact of disability has a rippling effect on those around you, both negative and positive so I want to investigate this further.

I also intend to brush up on my 3 Minute Wonders, to get a feel for the medium so hopefully by my next blog I will have a clearer picture of where I hope this documentary will take its audience. (Without sounding too deep and film-y!)

I am in production this week with a short I have written and co-produced about an Autistic man who thinks he's found the cure. It's an out and out comedy as again, I feel so strongly that there aren't enough shades of grey when it comes to representation of disability in the media. Hopefully I can provide a link to the finished film soon.
